Movie-Filled Weekend of Nov. 5-6

A good start to the holiday film season is upon us.

With "The Grudge" topping the box office two weeks in a row, moviegoers are wondering if it will go for a third week. This weekend, the CGI animated feature "The Incredibles" by Walt Disney and Pixar will be hitting theaters. Following the tale of a retired superhero (and his suburban family) trying to get back into the game, this family film is sure to give other animated features like "Shark Tale" a run for its money. The question is if it will give "The Grudge" some stiff competition.

One of the best marketing tools for this film is the "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" trailer that is attached to it. Many people are anticipating this film that doesn't come out until May 2005, so perhaps many "Star Wars" geeks will go see "The Incredibles" just for the trailer and then leave, giving the film a great chance to top the box office.

Also hitting theaters is the remake of "Alfie" starring Jude Law. It has been in limited release, but now it hits theatres nationwide. The original film starred Michael Caine, who was a playboy that couldn't get emotionally attached to women until that special someone enters his life. The new version parallels the storyline of its predecessor, but with an updated feel. Of course, many will not actually know this is remake, but it has Jude Law in it. That's enough for many young teenyboppers to flock to the theaters.

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, CGI animation takes another advancement with the Warner Bros. film, "The Polar Express". Robert Zemeckis directs and Tom Hanks voices one of the characters in this adaptation of the classic children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. The story is about a young boy's coming-of-age journey to the North Pole on an unbelievable train ride. Sony Pictures/ Imageworks provides visual effects that take CGI animation to the next generation--allowing live-action performances to dictate the emotions and movements of the digital characters, making it seem real. Soon enough, we won't need live actors in film anymore, just digital characters.

There you have it, this weekend in movies with a little extra one on Wednesday. Tune in next week for the early release of the sequel "Bridget Jones' Diary: The Edge of Reason", "After the Sunset" and "Seed of Chucky".
