Movie Filled Weekend of Oct. 29-31
The Grudge may have its work cut out for it this weekend with two much anticipated films coming out this weekend. "Ray," starring Jamie Foxx, portrays the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Although it seems as though Foxx had his work cut out for him, he apparently has performed this role with perfection, considering the critical praise that it is already receiving.
Also, just in time for Halloween, the thriller, "Saw" hits theatres. First-time writer and director James Wan tells a terrifying tale of a serial killer who kidnaps people who live morally indecent lives and forces them to play his horrendous games for survival. The story focuses on Adam (Leigh Whannell) and Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes), neither of them knowing why they were abducted by the psychotic mastermind known as "Jigsaw." They find themselves chained to rusty pipes on opposite sides of a dingy room with a dead man lying between them. From here, the horror begins.
In limited release is the controversial film, "Birth" starring Nicole Kidman. Kidman plays Anna, a woman who recently lost her husband. Enter in the scary kid from "Godsend" (also known as Cameron Bright). This 10-year-old boy claims to be the reincarnated soul of Kidman's deceased husband. From here, it just gets interesting. Supposedly, there is an interesting scene involving Kidman, Bright and a bathtub.
Two promising movies and one limited controversial release - the film season can only get better. The CGI animated superhero adventure "The Incredibles" comes out next weekend. If the movie doesn't appeal to you, maybe the release of the first trailer of "Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith" that is supposed to play before it will.
Happy Halloween!
