Newest headlines in the film casting world

It’s not a long stretch to believe Entourage’s larger-than-life and rather unstable agent Ari Gold as a kids’ movie villain; the dream is perhaps coming true with the news that Jeremy Piven is joining the cast of the newest Spy Kids installment, directed by franchise leader Robert Rodriguez.
According to reports surfacing today, Piven will join Jessica Alba and Joel McHale (NBC’s Community) in the fourth kids’ adventure film as the “maniacal Timekeeper” who wants to take over the planet. This installment forces ex-spy turned family woman Marissa Wilson’s (Alba) stepchildren to uncover her secret past and join forces with original Spy Kids Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara). McHale portrays her oblivious husband, Wilbur, and Spy Kids 4 is set for an Aug. 11, 2011 3-D release.

In other casting news, could the information surrounding the upcoming Muppets movie get any better? After securing a script by Jason Segel (arguably the best ingredient of How I Met Your Mother) and Nick Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall director), the film is starring Segel, Amy Adams and Walter, a brand new muppet. During promotion for Due Date, Robert Downey Jr. let it slip that co-star Zach Galifianakis is “in talks” to appear in the kid-friendly comedy. The plot revolves around Segel trying to save the Muppets’ studio, and I think Galifianakis would be a welcome addition, but as friend or foe?

Before news broke that Charlie Sheen had once again done something looked down upon in society (headlines included phrases “hospitalized,” “drunk and naked” and “porn star”), it was reported that he would be appearing as a “version of himself” in the Hilary Duff flick She Wants Me. Variety reported Sheen’s role, and no news has been updated regarding his participation in the romantic comedy centered around Duff’s A-list starlet character.
