Movie theater snacks worse than McDonalds?
According to Reuters, when the munchies strike at the movies, a medium popcorn and a soda could be the equivalent of eating three McDonalds quarter-pounders topped with scoops of butter!
A study by the Center for Science and Public Interest (CSPI) found that even sharing a small bag of popcorn between two people would still involve eating over a day's worth of saturated fat, which has been linked to heart disease.
New York Daily News reported that a medium popcorn and a medium soda contain 1,610 calories. A large soda can have 500 calories and 33 teaspoons of sugar. The smallest bag of popcorn isn't safe, either it has 700 calories! And if those snacks are bad, just imagine how many calories choices at the candy counter can have.
Even with these new reports, the movie theater industry doesn't show any sign of slowing down, so moviegoers beware! And practice a little restraint, for your own sake.
