Moving On Up: Pearl Jam, Beating the Odds

Pearl Jam is on course to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts for the first time in over 13 years. The band's new album, "Backspace," was released Sunday, only expecting to do fairly in chart rankings. The band was excited to uncover that they were doing more than just fair in the competition and had already reached a rank at No. 54 in the top.

The album is Pearl Jam's first not to be contracted under a major record label. Instead the band promoted their album through stores like Target, iTunes, and other retailers.

Since the release of "No Code" in 1996 the band has not been at No. 1, although they did come close in 2006 when the band landed the No. 2 spot with self entitled, "Pearl Jam." From 1992-2006, Pearl Jam made it to the charts, ranking albums at No. 5 and No. 3.

Pearl Jam have to compete against Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Kings of Leon and Kanye West.
