MSNBC Drops Don Imus
MSNC announced it will no longer simulcast the "Imus in the Morning" radio program effective immediately. The show features radio personality Don Imus who has been under fire for his recent remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
MSNBC said in a statement, the decision was the result of a review process and "it also takes into account many conversations with our own employees."
"What matters to us most is that the men and women of NBC Universal have confidence in the values we have set for this company. This is the only decision that makes that possible," said the statement.
"Once again, we apologize to the women of the Rutgers basketball team and our viewers. We deeply regret the pain this incident has caused."
Earlier this week, MSNBC suspended Imus' show for two weeks. Many African Americans and others believed the suspension was not a fitting punishment for the remarks made.
Two major advertisers announced they would pull their sponsorship of the radio show on Wednesday. Staples and Bigelow Tea Company both said they did not condone Imus' comments and were ending their relationship with him.
Imus has repeatedly apologized for the comments he made last Wednesday after the Rutgers ladies lost the NCAA women's title to the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers.
