Multicontinental Sequel for the Phantom of the Opera
Andrew Lloyd Webber is apparently not content with the astonishing success of his famed Phantom of the Opera musical. The musical mastermind has announced that he will be presenting the sequel of his very popular production at the end of next year.
According to the Daily Mail UK, Lloyd Webber plans to do it in extraordinary fashion (the way it should be for a Phantom sequel) by releasing the follow-up simultaneously in three cities: New York, Shanghai and London.
"I don't think you could do this if it wasn't the sequel to Phantom," Lloyd Webber said. "We've been into the feasibility of rehearsing three companies at once and opening very fast in the three territories. The one which really interests me would be China. . . . I think to open Love Never Dies in Shanghai would be an enormous thing."
The continuation, entitled Phantom: Love Never Dies, will take place 10 years after the original. During that time, the Phantom has left Paris and is now on Coney Island in Brooklyn. It was also reported that the new tale will see the Phantom reunite with his beloved Christine.
Although preparations are in motion, the cast has not been decided. Still, Lloyd Webber has a pretty good idea who the Phantom will be, but he chose not to disclose that information.
