Murray Hits Fan in the Head with a Golf Ball

The "Lost in Translation" actor calls the event "sobering."

Groundhog Day actor Bill Murray recently had a mishap while at a golf tournament in Tampa Bay, Fla. According to msnbc.com, Murray hit the tee-shot so hard that it sailed through the air, crossed the street, and hit an unsuspecting fan in the head.

Murray was on No. 9 at the TPC Tampa Bay during the Outback Pro-Am when he hit Gail DiMaggio in the head. She had told her husband moments before the impact, "I hope he hits it over here."

Shortly after Murray hit the ball, his caddy took him over to see the injured fan, who was being tended to by paramedics. Though she had been lying on the ground, she was conscious and moving. She was then taken to a local hospital.

"I wasn't sure if I was in bounds or not," Murray said. "And I saw this NBC golf cart coming at me and he said, 'I hate to be the one to tell you this but you hit a lady. She's down on the ground.' That is, you know, sobering."
