Music Compact Disc Extinction

Music CD Sales Down, Music Digital Downloads Up

The continued demise of music compact disc sales marks an increase in digital music commerce, now becoming the preferred standard.

Reuters reports that during the holiday period of 2007, digital music downloads reached sales of nearly 43 million tracks, in the U.S alone. This is a more than forty percent increase, from information provided by Nielsen Soundscan, when compared to last year's holiday period digital music sales.

The increase of digital "individual song" music downloads, has also brought about a resurgence in the success of the music single track.

Say hello to more "one hit wonders."
