Music Producer Phil Spector Sentenced to 19 Years in Prison

After being convicted for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson, Phil Spector was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison.

Music producer Phil Spector, 69, was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison on Friday for the shooting of actress Lana Clarkson six years ago. He was found guilty for the murder in April after a five month trial.

According to the New York Times, Spector was charged with 15 years to life for second-degree murder and four years for personal use of a gun.

Spector was also forced to pay $16,811 for Clarkson's funeral, $9,740 to a state victims' compensation fund, in addition to other payments, reported the New York Times.

Spector's attorney, Doron Weinberg, stated that he plans to file for an appeal process, reported the Associated Press.

Famed for producing the "Wall of Sound" technique, Spector was also well known for working with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Ike and Tina Turner.

Clarkson, who was murdered when she was 40, was famous for her role in Roger Corman's 1985 film, "Barbarian Queen," according to the New York Times.

Spector's lawyers contended that Clarkson had committed suicide, while Mr. Spector's chauffer, a court witness, said he heard a gunshot and saw Spector with a gun stating, "I think I killed somebody."

The five-month trial in April was the second time Spector was tried for the murder. The first was in 2007.
