Musicians remember Les Paul

Family, friends, and musicians alike mourn the loss of guitarist Les Paul.

Les Paul died due to complications with pneumonia in White Plains, N.Y. He died at the age of 94 on Thursday. Paul had a few musical hits of his own with ex-wife Mary Ford. These songs included How High the Moon" and "Vaya Con Dios." He made rock 'n roll possible with his contributions and inventions to the electric guitar. Dan Del Fiorentino, the National Association of Music Merchants' historian told the San Fransico Chronicle, "When most people think of the electric guitar, they think of Les Paul." Paul had been interested in music since a very young age. He was idolized by Chet Atkins, another guitarist, with whom he worked in the 1970s. In 2005, Paul was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. According to NewsOK, Paul was quoted as saying, "Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music. . . . To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today a guy wouldn't think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system."
