Nadal Cruises to Semifinals
After spending a day standing around waiting for the skies to clear up, Raphael Nadal made quick work of Fernando González. Nadal defeated González 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-0 to advance to the semifinals, reports the Associated Press.
No. 3 Nadal will face No. 6 Juan Martin del Potro this Sunday in the semifinals.
According to the New York Times, Nadal thanked fans after the match for putting up with the bad weather to watch the match.
In Nadal's already established career, the US Open remains the only Grand Slam title he has yet to win.
The Los Angeles Times states that the match took only 33 1/2 minutes after it was stopped by rain on Thursday. The delay and the weather clearly did not affect the men's third seed.
"Luckily for me I won the first four points in the tiebreak," Nadal said. "For the second time in my life I am in the semifinals. It's very important for me, important to have good results here."
