Nancy Kerrigan's Brother Charged with Assualt
Mark Kerrigan, brother of famed figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, is facing assault charges after an altercation with their father, Daniel, resulted in his death.
The Boston Globe reported that Daniel Kerrigan, 70, was found unresponsive in his home in Stoneham, Mass., on Sunday morning. He was later pronounced dead at Winchester Hospital.
Mark Kerrigan, 45, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person causing serious bodily injury. The police report says the son attacked his father during an argument about whether he could use the phone.
Police said Monday that Mark Kerrigan has not been charged with murder. Cause of death is pending autopsy results.
Nancy Kerrigan, 40, is best known for a brutal and bizarre incident in January 1994, when she was hit in the knee by a baton-wielding associate of rival skater Tonya Harding. Kerrigan was forced to withdraw from the event, but was named to the Olympic team that year anyway, and ended up winning silver in Lillehammer.
Nancy and husband Jerry Solomon welcomed their third child in May 2008.
