Natalie Portman in an unlikely role

Portman to star in "Thor."

Natalie Portman in a bonified action flick? It seems the tables have turned for the actress and advocator, as she will take a break from her usual indies and drama to star in Kenneth Branagh's version of Marvel comics' production of "Thor." Entertainment Weekly reports that Portman will portray Jane Foster, a nurse in the narrative that becomes a love interest of Thor.

Mtv.com reports that Thor, a character more than half a century old based off a Norse god, starts a relationship with Foster albeit the affections of Thor's alter-ego Donald Blake, causing tension for the three characters. Foster even held some of Thor's power when in his kingdom of Asgard. According to leader of Marvel films Kevin Fiege, Portman along with other actors in the film will be cast into possible sequels that shall encompass the Marvel "universe." The film is set to be released in March of 2011 with production starting in early 2010.
