Nation Still Jumpy After Virginia Tech

Colorado high school locks down after suspicious figures spotted on premises.

With the nation still jumpy after the Virginia Tech massacre last month, it seems that police and school officials could not help but lockdown the school after two suspicious men were seen roaming the building. The pair, dressed in camouflage, were spotted by a food service worker around 6 a.m. and took off running when the employee called out to them.

The school was locked down immediately, and police combed the high school from top to bottom, even bringing in police dogs to sniff for explosives. It is suspected that the men left the building when spotted, but police are not planning to comb the surrounding neighborhood at this time, instead focusing on ensuring that the school is safe for students to return. Students en route to the school were diverted to nearby Fairview High School and were picked up by parents. School was canceled for the day, as well as after-school activities. Some students thought the whole thing to be a senior prank, and Superintendent Chris King agreed it was a possibility. Still, better safe than sorry was the ruling sentiment.
