National Championship Game Set
Ohio State will have revenge on their minds Monday night, as they advanced to the national championship game and will face a familiar opponent in the Florida Gators.
Earlier in the season, the Buckeyes made a trip to Gainesville and left with their tail between their legs after an 86-60 drubbing.
It was the same story on the gridiron in January when the Gators football team dominated the number one ranked Buckeyes in the BCS Championship game, winning convincingly, 41-14.
Ohio State advanced to the finals after defeating Georgetown 67-60. Although the big story going into the game was the match-up between Buckeye center Greg Oden and Hoyas center Roy Hibbert, both were in constant foul trouble throughout the entire game, and were rarely on the court at the same time.
This meant that other players had to step up. For Ohio State, that player was freshman guard Mike Conley Jr., who ended the game with 15 points and 6 assists, and controlled the tempo of the game.
On the other side, Big East player of the year, Jeff Green, failed to assert himself offensively, only taking five shots in the entire game.
In the second game, Florida defeated the UCLA Bruins 76-66. The Bruins took an early blow when their star player, Aaron Afflalo, picked up two quick fouls and was forced to come out of the game. Despite this, they were able to stay close going into halftime, trailing by only six points.
In the second half, Florida came out firing, led by their senior sharpshooter Lee Humphrey, who made consecutive three point baskets to start the half. The Gators then looked to their big men, Al Horford, Joakim Noah, and Chris Richards, who took control of the game and accounted for 33 points and 32 rebounds.
