NBC Gives 'Parks and Recreation' a Third Season
NBC is renewing Parks and Recreation for a third season.
A representative for NBC told The Hollywood Reporter that the early renewal was to make sure the actors and actresses on the show didn't wander off to other projects.
NBC stressed that this does not reflect on the renewals of other Thursday NBC programs. The Office, 30 Rock and Community all got higher ratings than Parks and Recreation, so the chances of those shows getting another season are pretty high.
The second season picked up steam as it began setting itself apart from its originator, The Office. The abstract and sometimes outrageous show stars Saturday Night Live fake newscaster Amy Poehler, The Office vet Rashida Jones and stand-up comedian Aziz Ansar. The second season averaged 5.1 million viewers, with 95 percent of them being in the 18-49 demographic.
