NBC removes crucifixion scene from Madonna concert

Instead will show crowd or stage shots while singer is on the cross

NBC has decided not to air the controversial Crucifixion scene from Madonna's "Confessions" tour when it airs a special of the concert, a source close to the organization of the event told Reuters on Thursday.

The source spoke to Reuters after NBC announced it had revised the two-hour concert that is slated to air November 22. However, the source declined to say what changes were made.

During the song, "Live to Tell," Madonna is shown on a cross with a crown of thorns, but NBC has decided not to show these shots, the source told Reuters. Instead it will show different shots while she is on the cross and return to the singer when she gets down to finish the song.

Madonna, who is an executive producer of the special, originally insisted the scene be part of the concert that will be aired. NBC changed its mind after a number of Christian groups called NBC affiliates to complain about the potential airing.
