NBC Renews "Chuck" for Second Season
NBC announced Friday that they have renewed critically-acclaimed Chuck for a second season.
The network had previously already ordered the first 13 episodes of the show's second season, but also bought the final 9 of the second season of Josh Schwartz's Warner Bros. TV-produced comedy.
NBC did this because they were extremely pleased after viewing the first six episodes of season two, which is a very rare thing, considering the episodes have yet to be shown (which means that NBC doesn't have any ratings to base their decision on).
"We couldn't be more excited with the creative direction Josh (Schwartz) and his team are executing on 'Chuck,'" said Teri Weinberg, NBC's head of development and current programs. "This show has really hit its stride and deserves a full-season commitment to carry out the producers' vision for this unique series."
The ratings point that I wrote about is particularly significant, considering that Chuck hasn't been on the air since January because of the writers' strike.
This means that there isn't a guarantee that Chuck's strong audience will return.
Schwartz also created the CW's Gossip Girl, which Chuck will face off against in its time slot.
Time will tell if this is a good move for NBC.
