NC Wife Blames Fantasia Barrino for Marriage Breakup

A North Carolina woman has filed for divorce, claiming in court papers that her husband’s extramarital affair with Fantasia Barrino is responsible for the breakup of her marriage.

According to the records, which were filed Aug. 4 in Mecklenburg County, N.C., the American Idol winner actively participated in a illicit sexual relationship with Antwuan Cook even after being informed that he was married. The documents report that Barrino obtained a shoulder tattoo of Cook’s name and repeatedly took him to celebrity parties and events while Cook was telling his wife that he had to stay late or travel for work. At least one possible sex tape is also referenced in the complaint.

The documents further claim that the couple attempted to reconcile earlier this year but Barrino continued to meddle in the marriage relationship. Paula Cook is seeking custody of the couple’s two minor children as well as the family residence, the family’s Lexus vehicle, alimony and child support.

The complaint also states that the star allegedly told Paula Cook that her husband didn’t want her anymore.

“Maybe the next time you get a husband you’ll know how to keep him,” the documents quote Barrino as saying. “That’s why he’s here with me.”

North Carolina is one of a handful of states that still have an “alienation of affection” statute. The law gives Cook standing to sue. Although a lawsuit has yet to be filed, Barrino could be “on the hook for millions,” according to WCNC.

Great timing, all in all. Barrino’s latest album, “Back to Me,” is set for release on Aug. 24.
