Neil Diamond "Person of the Year" Gala Planned

Event to honor singer for his career, charity work.

Neil Diamond will be named the 2009 "Person of the Year" by MusiCares on February 6, LiveDaily reports.

The event will bring many musical luminaries together to celebrate Diamond's career and his charity work. The gala will start with a reception, then a silent auction, followed by a special dinner, an award presentation, and then a concert tribute to Diamond.

The lineup for the concert includes the Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Josh Groban, Jennifer Hudson, Adele, Tim McGraw, Raul Malo, and others. Diamond will also be giving a special performance. The event is being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

MusiCares was established in 1989 and provides assistance for music people when they desperately need it. The organization gives aid and resources for financial, medical as well as personal emergencies. MusiCares also has nationwide workshops that provide education on topics like substance abuse and other issues.
