Neil Gaiman Making 'The Graveyard Book' Into Feature Film
Neil Gaiman is one of the greatest British authors of our time, and is even being compared to Stephen King in terms of his fantasy/horror writing. He best known for his graphic novels The Sandman, and most recently, the movie adaptation of his book, Coraline. The movie received great critical praise from the film world, and now it would seem more of his pieces are being turned into movies.
The actual book The Graveyard Book, received great literary praise, including the 2009 Hugo and Newbury Medal awards. The movie is to be adapted by Neil Jordan, who most recently directed The Brave One with Jodie Foster.
The Graveyard Book is about an orphaned boy who lives in a graveyard full of ghosts and ghouls who adopt him as their own. They teach him ghostly acts, and try to prepare him for the real world, coming to a climax with the man named Jack, who killed his parents in the first place.
In an interview on The Today Show, Gaiman said that he originally got the idea while taking his son to ride his tricycle in a graveyard.
"I watched him peddling between the gravestones, and I thought, you know, I could write a book about a boy raised by dead people," he said.
