The Neverending Story

It was recently reported that several movie production companies are interested in bringing back to life the 1984 classic, The Neverending Story, with a more modernized take on the classic tale. The tale centers around a young boy who escapes the realities of his life in the fictional books in which he entrenches himself, only to eventually find himself stranded in the tales in which he confides. The young boy, named Bastian, stumbles upon a book that opens an alternate universe into which he's absorbed. Quickly, the boy finds himself in the mystical and fantastical land of Fantasia, where he meets the protagonist of the story, Atreyu.

Although the movie was a big hit and has achieved somewhat cult status, it was far different than the original German novel on which it was based. The movie is based only on the first half of the book and the new retake on the film is said to encompass more details from the book that the original movie simply glossed over. It is largely rumored that both Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way are both very interested in reinventing the film.
