Neverland Employees Laid Off After Ranch Is Shut Down
After three months of work with no pay, entertainer Michael Jackson has laid off 60 Neverland ranch employees. The California Department of Labor shut down the ranch owned Jackson due to his lack of provision of workmen's compensation.
The estate, located in the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County, was opened by Jackson in the late 80s and has been staffed by many of the same workers who were still there until its recent close. None of the staff have pension plans or the option to apply for COBRA health insurance, as reported by Foxnews.com.
Jackson, who hasn't resided at the ranch in two years, is not currently in the country. Sources close to the singer say he is not expected to return. He currently faces several lawsuits in addition to the foreclosure on $270 million of loans.
According to the Associated Press, a foreclosure auction on the Neverland Ranch scheduled for this week has been cancelled after an investment company bought the loan.
Ranch workers have since been reimbursed for their three months work with no pay.
