New Bands Will be inducted Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2010
The 25th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on March 15, 2010, at New York’s Waldorf Astoria. Being inducted for 2010 are bands The Stooges, Genesis, ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, and The Hollies.
The nominees who did not make the cut for this year include LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Laura Nyro, the singer/songwriter for Kiss.
To be eligible to be nominated for a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the musical act must have released its first single or album 25 years prior to the nomination.
Awards for non-performers will be given out as well, including the Ahmet Ertegun Award. This award will be given to record executive David Geffen, as well as songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who wrote “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’,” Ellie Greenwhich and Jeff Barry (“Be My Baby”), Jesse Stone (“Shake, Rattle, and Roll”), Mort Shuman (“Viva Las Vegas”), and Otis Blackwell (“Fever”).
The presenters and performers for the induction ceremony will be announced in early 2010.
