New "Buffy" Movie in the Works
With all the hype surrounding HBO's True Blood and the popular "Twilight" book series, someone decided to pull cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer out of the closet and into production. The duo behind the laughable movie version in 1992 is gearing up for a new movie version of the series, E! Online reported.
But, it's not a remake, prequel, or sequel. Fran Rubel Kuzui and husband Kaz Kuzui are intending to make the movie pick up where the series left off. The two own the rights to the series and believe "each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Fans of the cult classic TV show are already angry about the new film version. None of the original characters (Buffy, Spike, Angel, Willow or Xander) will appear in this version. Creator, Joss Whedon, is also not currently involved with the feature, even though his name is the one typically associated with the series. There does seem to be a chance, however, that he could be brought in.
"The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
There's currently no date set for the beginning of filming or release.
