New Details for Marvel's "Thor"
According to IESB, some new details have come out regarding the new Marvel Studios movie, Thor. IESB had reviewed an early draft of the movie's script, written by Mark Protosevich in 2007. The story set the titular hero, Thor, the mythological God of Thunder, in his native homeland of Asgard.
But now a "reliable source" for IESB claims that the script will be working in the character of Donald Blake. In the original Marvel comics, Donald Blake was a human alter-ego for the Thor character. Thor's father, Odin, created a mortal body for Thor in order to humble the God. Blake became a surgical doctor and started his own practice. The addition of the Donald Blake character will apparently play a huge part in tying in Thor with the other Marvel Studio features, Captain America: The First Avenger and Iron Man 2, into the Marvel Studios crossover movie, The Avengers. The original Marvel comics for "The Avengers" boasted a super hero team that over the years included the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man/Giant Man, The Wasp, the Vision, and later the likes of Wolverine, Spider-Man, and numerous others.
IESB also reported that Thor's director, Kenneth Branagh, will apparently play a supporting role in the movie as well.
Paramount Pictures is set to release Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh, July 16, 2010. The same summer, Paramount will also be releasing Iron Man 2, the sequel to 2008's huge Marvel Studios hit, on May 7.
