New Homes for "Slumdog" Child Stars

A long wait for not having a place to live

The child stars of "Slumdog Millionaire" will receive new homes thanks to director Danny Boyle.

Azharuddin Ismail, 10, and Rubina Ali, 9, will move out of the slums and into a better area in Mumbai.

According to BBC News, Boyle set up the Jai Ho trust which helps children financially.

Boyle's Oscar-winning movie grossed over $326 million, according to the Associated Press. The filmmakers pledged to spend up to $100,000 to get the two child stars family's new apartments. The filmmakers have also donated $747,500 to help slum children in Mumbai.

According to The New York Times the children's homes were destroyed this month by local authorities because they were illegal shanties. Ali's father was angry with the filmmaker's efforts. The six-month delay did not satisfy his belief in their efforts, claiming that he could have received a house in two days.
