New Information Emerges on Flight 447

New information about the cause of the Flight 447 crash is now being unveiled.

As more information is unveiled concerning the crash of Air France Flight 447 last week, it has become apparent that the aircraft's speed sensors were defective.

According to Reuters, since 2001, the Airbus A330 has experienced changes in both equipment and in the pilot's flight manual. Although Airbus had recently recommended that all its customers replace the speed-measuring gear on the A330, the head of the French investigation commented that they had yet to be substituted on this particular flight. France's chief crash investigator noted that while airspeed problems had arisen on previous Airbus A330 flights, the planes were still safe to fly.

On the evening of May 31, the plane hurtled into the middle of an electrically-charged tropical storm. Within 14 minutes, almost all of the craft's vital functions had been disabled. It is believed to have split apart before finally falling into the Atlantic Ocean.
