New iPhone 3G Emerges

Apple and AT&T release new and improved version.

The original iPhone was a huge hit when it was released in the summer of 2007, bringing lines of people to AT&T stores all over the nation to be one of the first to buy it; and many consumers went out to buy it based on the fact that it "looked cool" on the commercial.

The hefty prices of $499 for the 4GB model and $599 for the 8GB model didn't seem to keep consumers from going out to buy the phone that boasted a touch screen, Internet, GPS, MP3 player, and an accelerometer, which automatically rotated the display when you rotated the phone from portrait to landscape.

Buyers of this original model may be dismayed at the quickness with which Apple and AT&T released this new version. Apple's Web site claims that the new iPhone 3G is "twice as fast" for "half the price," and among the renovations is the more manageable price of $199, support for Microsoft Exchange, a YouTube application, and the App Store, which allows iPhone users to browse and download games onto the phone.

Gone are the days when a phone was used only to talk to people. With the increasing desire for quicker, more instantaneous communication and features that make it possible to be entertained on the go, cell phones now serve a multitude of purposes.
