New Kids on the Block Began Their Tour with an Exhilarating Show
The anticipated return of these pop megastars is finally here as New Kids on the Block performed their first show in over 14 years. Taking the stage at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Thursday night, the Kids proved that they still got it.
The deafening screams of NKOTB's thousands of loyal fans filled the night. At one point during the sold-out show, a fan threw her bra at Joey McIntyre, according to People. He was so stunned, he threw it back to her from the stage.
"They were all pretty speechless," an eyewitness said.
During the two-hour set of NKOTB classics and singles off their new album, The Block, Donnie Wahlberg continued to thank their fans. "All you little girls . . . grew up to be fine young women," said Wahlberg.
"Opening night of the tour was beyond anything I can describe," band member Danny Wood told People. "If there is anything that can surpass living a dream, it is right now. NKOTB!"
Backstage after the show, "Donnie said he was just so grateful for the love of the fans," said the observer. "And Joey said, 'Now that was fun!'"
"The boys are back in fine form, straddling the line between the puppy-love pushers they used be, and the damn near 40-year-old-men they've become," wrote Ashley Infantry, music critic of the Toronto Sun.
"McIntyre and Jordan Knight's falsettos are ever compelling," Infantry added, "as is Wahlberg's tenor and rhymes."
The U.S. leg of their tour will begin with a show in East Rutherford, N.J., on Sept. 23, and will end in Los Angeles, on Nov. 26.
