New 'Socalled' Documentary to Premiere on YouTube Rental Service

A new documentary on the artist Socalled will premiere on the YouTube Rental Serivce on March 16.

Ever since it was revealed that YouTube would be starting a new online rental service, some of the most unique and artistic films have premiered on the popular video website. According to CBC News, the YouTube Rental Service will debut an all-new National Film Board documentary on the Montreal musician Socalled.

The appropriately titled The ‘Socalled’ Movie will debut on YouTube on March 16. On the night of its premiere, Socalled will be in Austin performing at the South by Southwest music festival. As the YouTube Rental Service has yet to be released in Canada, the film is expected to make its Canadian premiere later this spring.

Directed by Garry Beitel, the documentary was filmed in Montreal, New York, France, and Ukraine.

With such hits as Socalled Seder, HipHopKhasene, and Ghettoblaster, the singer has become widely popular in the US. His real name Josh Dolgin. Socalled is mainly a klezmer rapper in addition to being a filmmaker and visual artist. He is famous for combining this Yiddish folk sound with various genres ranging from funk to classical.
