Michael Kay has reported on ESPN 1050 New York that the New York Knicks are preparing an offer of Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry and a future first round pick to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Carmelo Anthony.
The news is preliminary, so more may be on the way.
A trade offer such as this creates multiple scenarios. On the one hand, the Nuggets may feel forced to accept a trade from the Knicks, as Carmelo has been so persistent upon returning to the city in which he was born. Being that he has an expiring contract, other teams may be hesitant to trade for him without reassurance that he will sign a contract extension.
On the other hand, the Nuggets may take the path led by the Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns -- a stubborn road of not trading a star player who is clearly disgruntled, only to have to them leave ten months later. The Suns and Raptors chose not to trade Amar'e Stoudemire and Chris Bosh when they had the chance and now they are on different teams.
On a related note, sources are allegedly saying that Isiah Thomas has had reassurances from Carmelo Anthony that he will sign with the Knicks should he not receive a trade and reach free agency next year.
