Newest Sims Edition Allows Gay Marriage

Virtual reality gives same-sex couples a right many states do not.

If you're gay and don't live in one of the six states that has legalized gay marriage, there's now a virtual place to gain your nuptials. The newest edition of the Sims is allowing gay couples to get hitched, reports AfterElton.com.

The alternate reality game has been gay friendly since its first version was released. The first edition, however, followed the real world so close that it only allowed straight couples to marry. Debuting in 2004, "The Sims 2" let gay couples be "joined" and allowed them to live together, but still not as a married couple.

The newest version calls married men husbands.

"It may seem like a small step for a game series that has always been LGB-inclusive, but games that treat gay people equally are still pretty rare," reports the website.
