Next ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Installment to Shoot in Hawaii

The cast and crew of Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will be saying “Aloha!” to the islands of Hawaii as it begins shooting on Oahu and Kauai this summer.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth chapter in Disney’s monstrously successful franchise, is scheduled to start filming in Hawaii.

Of course, Johnny Depp will reprise his role as the witty and unpredictable Captain Jack Sparrow with shooting for the motion picture starting in the summer on the Hawaiian islands of Oahu and Kauai. Yet, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” won’t be released in theaters until 2011.

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The announcement was made by Gov. Linda Lingle, who recently met with Disney president and CEO Bob Iger. Lingle's office estimates the production will generate $85 million in spending in Hawaii.”

There are three big-budget films that are set up to be shot in the islands this year and “Pirates” is the latest one among them.

As with the previous three films, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer but the fourth film’s director is not Gore Verbinski but Rob Marshall, the director of the 2002 motion picture “Chicago.”

Yet, fans of Depp need not worry about having to wait until 2011 to see his face in the silver screen. His latest film, the Tim Burton-directed “Alice in Wonderland” is due to be released in theaters in March. In addition, Depp is currently in pre-production on the thriller “The Tourist,” opposite Angelina Jolie. Depp is also in post-production on both the Gore Verbinski-directed animated action flick “Rango,” which will also include the voices of Depp’s “Pirates” co-star Bill Nighy and “My Sister’s Keeper’s” Abigail Breslin, among others as well as the drama “The Rum Diary,” opposite Giovanni Ribisi and Aaron Eckhart.
