NFL Player Charged with DUI
Donte Stallworth killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence in Florida, according to CNN. His blood alcohol level was a .126; the state's legal limit is a .08.
Stallworth was drinking in Miami Beach at a club on March 14. He left and went into an unidentified residence for almost an hour, and then left in his car at 7:07 a.m.
While driving on the MacArthur Causeway, Stallworth hit Mario Reyes, a construction worker. Reyes was struck by the right front fender, suffering critical head, chest and abdominal injuries. He died shortly thereafter.
When police arrived, Stallworth claimed Reyes was lying in the road. He said he honked and flashed his headlights to alert the man, but to no avail.
Police have charged Stallworth with DUI manslaughter for Reyes's death, said spokesman Ed Griffith. Part of Stallworth's bail is that he does not consume drugs or alcohol and will be administered random drug and alcohol testing. He is also to have a curfew between midnight and 6 a.m., and is not allowed to drive.
If convicted, Stallworth may be sentenced to 15 years in prison.
