Mariah Carey celebrated her first Mother’s Day as a mom this past weekend.
Carey gave birth to twins, a baby girl named Monroe, and a baby boy named Moroccan Scott, on April 30.
Carey’s husband Nick Cannon gave his wife a special Mother’s Day gift inspired by their new bundles of joy.
According to People, Cannon gave Carey a 4-carat diamond and sapphire necklace from Jason of Beverly Hills. The necklace, valued at $12,000, features 14-karat white and rose gold, and reads Moroccan on top and Monroe below.
“Nick was really excited about the babies’ names and wanted to do a piece with them for Mariah’s first Mother’s Day,” jeweler Jason Arasheben told the magazine. He “met with Jason on the Friday after his twins were born,” a source added. “He was bleary eyed, looking so tired but so happy — all smiles, saying he wanted to design something special for Mariah’s first Mother’s day. He couldn’t wait to surprise her on Sunday.”
Carey and Cannon’s twins’ names were revealed to the public a few days after their birth. According to ABC News, Moroccan Scott Cannon, the baby boy, was named as an inspiration from Carey's New York City apartment, which features Moroccan-inspired décor. It was also the place where Cannon proposed.
The baby girl, Monroe Cannon, is inspired by Marilyn Monroe, Carey’s inspiration. Although Moroccan has a middle name, Monroe does not because Carey doesn’t have a middle name.
