A Night for Twilight Ð The 2009 MTV Movie Awards Recap

Last night, an event that will be talked about for months to come, occurred in California at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards – Eminem got a mouthful of Sacha Baron Cohen. This years host, comedian and actor Andy Samberg, started the show off doing what it does best – poking fun at popular Hollywood movies and actors. As for the winners, Twilight fans got their fix.

The first winner of the night, Ashley Tisdale for Breakthrough Female in High School Musical 3, was awarded her golden popcorn. The second and third awards went to Twilight for Best Fight Scene and Best Breakthrough Male by Robert Pattinson.

Eminem made an attempt to get the crowd hyped up with the first performance of the night, but the crowd was more entertained with him when a flying Cohen wearing a thong and angel wings fell on his face. After a slew of curse words, the rapper stormed off with his crew. Perhaps performing a song about celebrities was not the way to go, Em.

This year, the show featured two new categories -- Best Song From a Movie (Miley Cyrus for the The Climb) and Best WTF Moment (Amy Poehler for peeing in the sink in Baby Mama.) Ben Stiller took home the Generation Award. "I am honored to be getting the Generation Award," he said in a former interview published by various news outlets a few days before the show. "I was given my first show at MTV and also canceled for the first time. I also was secretly having an affair with J.J. Jackson, so it brings back pleasant memories."

The night ended with Best Comedic Performance and Best Movie. A shocked Jim Carey went up on stage. With his mouth wide open, speechless, he paused for a minute and then said ""There wouldn't be the Swine Flu if we treated pigs better." This was an award Twilight couldn't take home. No fear Twilight fans, it beat out contenders Slumdog, Dark Knight, High School Musical 3 and Iron Man for that final popcorn and bragging rights for Best Movie.
