Nine Sees Fergie Exploring Sexuality

The "Black Eyed Peas" singer will play a prostitute in the Tony-winning musical.

While Fergie has found musical success as the lead singer of "Black Eyed Peas," she has not garnered similar success thus far for her acting prowess; her roles in Poseidon and Grindhouse were relatively minor and failed to capture audience attention.

Her next role, however, should remedy that situation; according to CNN.com, Fergie will portray a prostitute in Nine, a film adaption of a musical that earned a Tony award. She will also perform the song, "Be Italian," with Guido, represented by Daniel Day-Lewis.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Fergie described her character as one who "introduces Day-Lewis's character (Guido) to the world of sexuality." She added that she was "thrilled" to play this individual and found it exciting that "she was not going to be singing as herself, but as a character in a play."

Though Fergie may have limited acting experience, she will not lack for mentors on the set; along with Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench and Kate Hudson will also be starring in the film. The opportunity to work with such an established group is not lost on the "Black Eyed Peas" singer.

According to CNN.com, Fergie made it clear that she intends to be "a sponge on set and pick up on everything that all these brilliant actors are bringing to the table."

Along with filming responsibilities, Fergie was also in Las Vegas to showcase her new lines of shoes at the World Shoe Association Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center. She also revealed that she is working on a new album with the Black Eyed Peas, their first since 2005's Monkey Business.

According to CNN.com, Fergie described this new effort as one that is "artistic and willing to push the envelope." Clearly, "pushing the envelope" is a skill that she excels at, in both the music and acting worlds.
