'Nip/Tuck' Recap: Joel Seabrook's Death Wish
Christian and Sean start the episode consulting a patient, Joel Seabrook, who has attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge. He has come in for facial reconstruction. Mr. Seabrook says that his depression started when his son died. “I didn‘t jump to my death I jumped to my life. I just need you to help me live it,” he tells them. Kimber loses interest in sex with Christian and finds herself thinking about Sean while they’re together. When she is confronted for staying, she replies that it's for the same reason he does. Christian’s next patient is a man that needs surgery on his neck due to scars from a rough act of erotic asphyxiation. Sean tries to make a difference by doing a surgery for his friend, Curtis Ryerson, who works for a humanitarian organization.
Later that night, Christian's curiosity gets the best of him. He tries something new in bed with Kimber, the erotic asphyxiation, which seems to bring their sex life back to life, although it may have unnerved Kimber. The next day she breaks things off with Sean in hopes of making her marriage work. She decides to take some initiative and be honest with Christian. When he finds out about the change in operations and Sean working with Curtis, Christian is a little peeved. All the while he is unaware that Sean plans to go to Africa for a month.
Kimber tries to come up with he own idea for spicing up things in the bedroom. In the middle of their love making session, Christian tries to get Kimber to choke him, but instead she fakes an orgasm. With his ego bruised, Kimber is forced to admit that she feels guilty about not going along with Christian's sexual fantasies even though she might not be into it. Back at Sean’s place, Liz confronts him about going to Africa. She encourages him to pursue something that could be great. While Kimber is out, Christian attempts the erotic asphyxiation on his own but almost dies. She finds him passed out and when he comes to, he tells her that they should break up. He feels that he’s not good for her, yet all the while Kimber thinks that she’s at fault. Sean's advice is that she take the opportunity to do something for herself. Kimber leaves to spend some time with Mike in hopes that he’ll take her back. While on his yacht, she is shot down and in a depression she jumps overboard. Deeply upset, Christian tells Sean the news, that Kimber is missing. Mr. Seabrook comes to thank Sean who may be reconsidering going to Africa.
