No Crowe for Baz

Russell Crowe has been nixed to play the lead opposite Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated epic romance.

Crowe confirmed the announcement Sunday, according to Monstersandcritics.com.

Reports say that Crowe wanted too much say in the script, which didn't hold very well with Luhrmann.

The director told the Daily Telegraph last year that he, Kidman and Crowe would take a pay cut to help pay for the film.

"Russell, Nicole and I have been wanting to do a large Australian piece for a very long time," Luhrmann said. "We have some of the most extraordinary landscape on the planet and we want to get two of the most extraordinary actors in the world to put them, acting, in that landscape."

The most notable actor to replace Crowe could be Oscar-nominated Heath Ledger.
