No MLB Pitcher to Win 19 Regular Season Games This Year

For the second time in four years, no pitcher will win 20 regular season games.

New York Yankees starting pitcher CC Sabathia pitches against the Chicago White Sox

MLB.com reports that "For only the second time in modern Major League Baseball history -- and the second time in four years -- a full regular season will go into the books without a 20-game winner." New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright were the closest to reach the mark, wining 19 games each.

According to the New York Times, Sabathia's bid to win 20 games was halted by the Tampa Bay Rays, who defeated the Yankees 13-4 on Friday. On a night when Sabathia slumped, B.J. Upton stole the show, hitting for the cycle.

Newsday states that Upton, who entered the game with a .359 slugging percentage, became the first Ray to ever hit for the cycle.
