No More 'American Idol' for Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul will not be returning for another season of "American Idol."

It's official, Paula Abdul will not be returning for another season of "American Idol" reports MSNBC.

Abdul made the announcement on Tuesday night via Twitter. After eight seasons the star has decided to leave the popular television show. It is not certain how the viewers will react to her exit until the next season airs. At this point it can only help or hurt the show.

In 2002, when the show first debuted, Abdul was brought on because of her success as a singer and dancer from the 1980s. Now Abdul has become much more than that after seven years. She is now known for being the supportive and sympathetic judge who continued to encourage the singers often after Simon Cowell would rip into their performances.

Over the years Abdul has made some odd comments herself. In 2008 she told contestant David Archuleta, "I wanted to squish you, squeeze your head off, and dangle you from my rear-view mirror."

Kara DioGuardi will now be the only female judge on the show.
