No porn, or No funding

Senator threatens to stop University funding due to porn, students call bluff.

University of Maryland students showed the popular porn title, "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge," on campus, despite Senator Andrew Harris' threat to block funding if the movie was presented, according to MTV.com.

The viewing seemed to portray a rally more than a showing, reports The Washington Post. With lawyers, activists, professors and students all speaking into microphones and news cameras, the message was obvious; don't censor free speech.

"I know some students would like to portray this as a free speech issue," Harris explained in a statement, according to the Post. "It is not. This is about the use of taxpayer dollars, and the Maryland General Assembly acts every day on issues concerning the use of taxpayer dollars."

This particular film has been screened on multiple campuses including, the University of California at Los Angeles, Northwestern University and Carnegie Mellon University, reports MTV. None of these showings created an issue.

Only 30 minutes of the film was shown.
