Noel Gallagher Says Good-Bye to Oasis

Lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher quit the band Oasis Friday.

Lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher has left the band Oasis saying that he "could not go on working with Liam [his brother] a day longer."In a statement on the band's website, Oasisinet, Gallagher announced his departure from Oasis, one of most popular British bands of the 1990s, The Associated Press reported. "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight," wrote Gallagher.

The announcement followed a last-minute cancellation of a performance in Paris. Oasis was set to perform Friday at the Rock En Seine Festival. Instead a brief message flashed across the stage: "As a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been canceled," reported The New York Times.

Gallagher and his brother Liam, lead singer and guitarist, formed the band in 1991. The Gallagher brothers are the longest-standing members of the band. Other members of the current lineup are Colin Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock.

Oasis had performances planned at the Rock Am See Festival in Konstanz, Germany and at the I-Day Festival in Milan, Italy. Both performances have been canceled, and Gallagher, in his statement, apologized to those who bought tickets for the shows.
