Nolan's Dark Knight Is Fastest Grossing Movie

The Dark Knight grosses 400 million dollars in mere 18 days.

The Dark Knight has officially set the new record for fastest grossing movie after bringing in $6.3 million on Monday, according to Exhibitor Relations. After its spectacular opening sales set at $66 million, the movie has still lived up to its hype and has kept the momentum deserved by Christopher Nolan's avant-garde vision of Batman. That has brought the movie to a total of $400,038,494 in a record 18 days. The previous record holder was Shrek 2, which reached $400 million in 43 days. Keep in mind this is just the domestic sales for movie tickets, The Dark Knight has yet to be released in countries such as Germany, Japan, and South Korea.

The worldwide total is at a current $600 million, and in contrast to other comic-based movies, more specifically and recently, Exhibitor Relations' tally of Spiderman 3's $151.1 million grossed, is exhibiting The Dark Knight's potential to possibly be number one grossed movie in the world. But it does have some pretty large shoes to fill as Titanic grossed $600 million domestically and $1.2 billion worldwide, with ticket prices being generally cheaper than today.

The Dark Knight, though, has almost three more weeks to sink the Titanic in domestic box office sales. With all the hype and momentum of this brilliant portrayal of our Dark Knight, the next one has a lot to live up to.
