Not everyone can be a fan of The Beatles
This week is the aptly titled "Beatles Week"; Wednesday was the highlight of the aforementioned day. Yesterday all the remastered The Beatles albums and new The Beatles: Rock Band game.
The excitement caused by the re release of the albums has proved that this band, truly stand the test of time. The Beatles seem to hold a cherished spot in the hearts of fans both old and new; and with the release of their own video game on all platforms will hopefully bring in new fans from that front.
According to BBC.com, "the first 50,000 box sets of mono versions of the discs, priced at £170, have already sold out, according to record company EMI. Saturation media coverage to mark the release of the albums, of which an estimated billion copies already reside in record collections worldwide, has been led by the BBC's "Beatles Week" series of programs."
But apparently not everyone is a fan of The Beatles, despite the hysteria caused by them. An author and broadcaster Robert Elms is one of the few who is not a fan of the well regarded band. He feels that they ripped of the basic foundation of American inspired Rock and Roll and turned it into a "totally soulless, playground sing-along" form of music.
Though Mr. Elms is not a fan of them in particular he does note that they did write some good songs, but mostly he calls their catalog- "crimes against music." Elms will not play Beatles music on his BBC radio show and feels that due to some feedback; there might be a following of those who share his feelings towards the band.
Despite the supposed hate for the band, overall you can't argue with the bands mass appeal and the huge reception yesterday's release got. For instance as reported on LATimes.com, regarding the Rock Band game "About 30 people were waiting outside the store when it opened at 8 a.m., a Best Buy manager said. Just a couple of hours later, the store still had a few of the Beatles: Rock Band for Wii and Xbox systems on display, but customers had already snapped up all the Playstation 3 versions."
