Obama and Clinton Campaigns Battle over Photo
According to the Associated Press, Barack Obama's campaign criticized Hilary Clinton's camp for attempting a smear by reportedly circulating a photo that showed the presidential candidate wearing traditional African clothing during his trip to Kenya in 2006.
During an interview in San Antonio Texas, Obama said, "Everybody knows that whether it's me or Senator Clinton or Bill Clinton that when you travel to other countries they ask you to try on traditional garb that you have been given as a gift."
Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe said in a statement according to CBS News, "On the very day that Senator Clinton is giving a speech about restoring respect for America in the world, her campaign has engaged in the most shameful, offensive fear-mongering we've seen from either party in this election. This is part of a disturbing pattern that led her county chairs to resign in Iowa, her campaign chairman to resign in New Hampshire, and it's exactly the kind of divisive politics that turns away Americans of all parties and diminishes respect for America in the world."
Clinton's campaign manager responded by saying, "If Barack Obama's campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely."
Criticisms and critiques remain heavy between both presidential candidates leading up to the Texas and Ohio primaries on March 4. Both candidates have also agreed to a debate on Feb. 26 hosted by NBC News at Cleveland State University in Ohio.
