Obama Campaigning for Olympics in Chicago?
The New York Times reports that Chicago's leaders, including Mayor Richard M. Daley, are recruiting President Barack Obama to assist in Chicago's attempt to land the 2016 Summer Olympics. They want him to fly off to Denmark to represent Chicago in front of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
"We would love for him to be there and we feel it will make a difference," United States Olympic Committee (USOC) acting chief executive Stephanie Streeter told a media summit on Thursday.
According to USA Today, the meeting, scheduled for Oct. 2, will be in Copenhagen. Obama has yet to confirm whether or not he will participate in Chicago's quest for the Olympics beyond offering words of support.
To be fair, Obama has been somewhat active helping his hometown land the 2016 Olympics. Reuters reports that Obama sent taped messages to the IOC campaigning for Chicago to host the 2016 games.
