Obama Criticizes Bush/McCain on State of Economy
Democratic candidate Barack Obama said Thursday that the economy is "on the brink of a recession," and blamed the economic policies supported by President Bush and the soon-to-be Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
The Illinois Senator's response ridiculed a more positive economic outlook displayed by Bush earlier in the day. "People are struggling in the midst of an economy that George Bush says is not a recession, but is experienced differently by folks on the ground," Obama said.
Showing the current state of affairs in the Democratic party, Obama spent his second day in a row focusing on McCain and Bush and all but ignoring Hillary Rodham Clinton. This being despite Clinton and Obama squaring off in next Tuesday's primaries in Texas and Ohio.
"We are not standing on the brink of recession because of forces beyond our control," Obama said in a town hall meeting in Austin. Obama's position is that more stimulus efforts need to be taken, and Bush believes that no further action needs to be taken.
Only time will tell who's correct.
